How Long Do Candles Last?

Keep the Flame Alive: How Long Do Candles Last?
How long do scented candles last? This is one of the most common questions we get here at Goose Creek. There is no one-size-fits-all answer, however. How long a candle lasts depends on a variety of factors: namely what it’s made of, its size and its shape. After all, candles come in a huge variety of unique forms from tall pillar candles to teeny-tiny tea lights. Naturally, they all burn for different periods of time. Consider the different additives and manufacturing methods, and you’ve got different burn times across the board.

However, at Goose Creek, we strive to make ours some of the most enjoyable, long-burning candles on the market with many of our premium, paraffin and soy wax candles burning for over 150 hours. Here’s the breakdown of how long each of our candles last, generally speaking:

  • Large Jar Candles — Our largest candles are our 24-ounce Large Jar Candles, which burn up to 150 hours and stand at 6.6 inches high.
  • Tumbler Candles — One size down is our 20-ounce Tumbler Candle, which will easily burn up to 120 hours and stands at 6 inches high.
  • American Legacy Candles — These attractive, richly scented 13-ounce candles will burn for up to 60 hours and stand at 6.6 inches high.
  • Three-Wick Candles — With three wicks to offer triple the fragrance, our 14.5-ounce three-wick candles burn for 35-plus hours and stand at 3.625 inches high.
  • Tea Light Candles — Our smallest wicked candles are our popular 1.5-ounce tea lights, offering 12 to 15 hours of burn time at 1.06 inches high each.
  • Wax Melts — These little wedges pack a big punch! Each wheel contains 21 ounces of luxury aroma, offering 50 to 80 hours of burn time.

Making Your Candles Last Longer

Candle-lovers like us often wonder whether or not there’s any special trick for getting candles to last longer. After all, you don’t want to let that decadent, calming scent slip away too quickly. Here are a few quick tips from the experts to make them last:

  • Trim the wick before burning, about a quarter of an inch before each lighting. This will help the candle burn at a slower, more even pace.
  • Burn your candles only in environments where there’s no breeze or wind. The flickering of air can feed the flame, causing it to burn faster than is ideal.
  • Only buy candles made of premium paraffin or soy wax in the U.S. These waxes are specially formulated to burn for longer, emitting a rich aroma to the last drop.
  • Only buy candles that list a specified burn time. These products are made to be long-lasting and will typically meet or exceed the listed time.
